But in What Part? When looking for cheap lodging and/or cheap hostels in Granada, most people prefer to stay near the Plaza Nueva and Plaza Santa Ana areas of Granada - the area at the foot of the Alhambra, in the Plaza Bib-Rambla or Realejo districts and near the Granada Cathedral. Others prefer to stay in the quieter Albaicin and Sacromonte neighborhoods. All of these areas are within walking-distance to Granada's most interesting places. To visit the Alhambra, however, one should consider seriously going by city bus as it is at the top of a very steep hill. Also consider taking one of the many Granada Tours to see Granada and the Alhambra with a licensed tour guide.

What is a Hostel? In Granada, as in all of Spain and Latin America, hostels are usually very quaint (small), family owned and operated budget hotels and can be found in some of the most historical, interesting, active parts of Granada and at very good prices. Granada Hostels typically give you - and you retain possession of - the individual room key and oftentimes a private, in-room bathroom is included. Sometimes, in older buildings and/or for single-rooms, the bathroom is "shared" and "down the hall". Remember, "hostels" in Granada and Spain are called "hostales" in Spanish - and one should not confuse "hostels" with "youth-hostels". Youth-hostels in Granada and Spain are called "albergues juveniles".
